THE LISTENING (suite)

Picking it up where I left it on the subject of ‘Listening’,

There are 3 kind of music I like:

   -GOOD MUSIC.

Anything good when coming at the right moment. I’m at home, chilling, and ‘Crazy World’ by YOUNG JEEZY plays on the radio. Or in a car riding with the crew and So-Me plays ‘Evil Woman’ by the ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA. Or even in the club when A-Trak drops his new DUCK SAUCE ‘You’re Nasty’ or this TODD EDWARDS remix I forgot about. The instant matches the mood, the music is good, I like it, I sing, I dance. Sometimes it brings back memories, or just make me plain happy. It’s good music!

   -Then there’s PERFECT MUSIC.

I touched this topic here already, there is such thing as perfection in music, sometimes so perfectly executed that you almost forgot SOMEBODY ACTUALLY HAD TO WRITE IT, PLAY IT and PRODUCE IT. Like the whole Thriller, What’s Going On, Songs In The Key Of Life, Catch A Fire, Revolver, After The Gold Rush, Maggot Brain albums, etc… The words match the melody-perfect. The sound matches the meaning-perfect. The anywhere-anytime 5 star selection in your iTunes library-perfection. James fucking Brown.

-And then, of course, there’s music that is just TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

The kind that strikes you straight when you weren’t even really listening, forcing you to just drop whatever you were doing because you can’t believe what you hearing. The kind you have to take a nap after consumption. The kind you hardly understand how. A good portion of NAS Illmatic is that level, as well as OUTKAST’s Aquemini or JIMI’s ‘Along The Watchtower’. Hear what I mean??

  Sure you do.

The ELECTROMA movie soundtrack is just full of those. As a little shout out to the big boys I’d love to share this one with you peeps: If You Were My Man by LINDA PERHACS.

And the sun is out today in Paris-it has its importance.

         Mehdi.

TUESDAY SPRING TOAST

     Moving on, moving on,

These brief tips I wanted to share with you peeps:

-My favourite music blog in the world wide web is called SOUL SIDES. Written by DJ O-DUB, it’s been feeding me on great music tips (and numerous samples) for many years now, and always been an interesting read. They’re celebrating their 5th anniversary at the moment, please go and wish them a happy one from me-you’ll thank me after.

-My second favourite blog, and I’ve been plugging it here a few times already, is the mighty COCAINE BLUNTS, written by the mighty mighty NOZ. New and old rap music, a lot of late, great cats you never heard of, and local music for the masses. And it’s also a good place for over-internet arguing, if that’s something you like to do.

-Random 3 songs I couldn’t live without while in California:

‘Crazy Love’ by VAN MORRISON off of the wonderful Moondance album,

‘High Together’ by SIRIUSMO on BoysNoize Records,

and this DRAKE laid-back freestyle featuring BUN B and a top-form LIL WAYNE: Uptown.

-Least but not last, my old folks BUSY P and FEADZ  will engage in a head-spin contest this Sunday in London, at ‘Heaven under the Arches’. Big Vice Magazine jump-off, it’s Bank Holiday yo. (Speaking of FEADZ, his new EP ‘Money-People-Numbers-Business’ is fresh out mastering and it’s as beautiful as a Grandmaster Lover love letter.)

Peace to Peanut Butter Wolf and Prince Paul,

         Mehdi.

THE QUESTION REMAINS

“THE COACHELLA OH-NINE”

Sebastian/Mehdi/Kavinsky/Surkin/G-stice/Busy P/So-Me

I know you’re missing someone.

     Questions, questions, questions.

Are we seriously watching stupid cats videos and dancing to Franz Ferdinand while the Cinespace bouncers are looking for us with flash-lights in the streets of Hollywood?

  Of course not.

This is an interesting time. In one sense, the relevance of this blog itself is at stake right now. First because what seems like the most important thing happening about Ed Banger right now is not even mentioned here. And, even more revealing, because this wasn’t just an internet moment, on this site or any other. And I bet you’d be as thrilled and speachless as we are if you too were at Cinespace that night

Who wants another cheeky internet report? I just Wish You Were Here.

Come out peeps, we’re doing this every weekend,

          M.

And oh yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY INDEED to Busy P, the number 1 Cool Cat—

SUPREME PROOF: ELSTREE BY THE BUGGLES

      Peeps,

This Elstree tune by the mighty BUGGLES is like high heel shoes or Fafi’s apple and pear crumble: another  proof that God exists. It feels like spring in the verse and autumn in the chorus. It’s technically perfect yet sounds so simple. And it’s the upmost example of how you don’t need to be a supreme singer to make an amazing song.

Bromance is in the air, my vieux frère Xavier de Rosnay plugged me onto this song, this post is dedicated to him. I thought I could pay him back by introducing him to my favourite EPMD track.
