A BIT TOO FAR (JUST A LITTLE BIT)

Props to my blother (blog brother?) A-TRAK for sharing this interesting piece of american blogging (by Media Assassin Harry Allen), and this other one with a slight counter-point of view (by Tommy Christopher on Mediaite).

Both must-read, must-think, and must-spread.

M.

PS: Read the (sometimes) interesting comments on these posts too.

PS2: Let today be RACISM DAY on Mehdipedia, and enjoy this insightful analysis of good ol’french arab-bashing (in french).

COOL CATS: EROL ALKAN AND BOYSNOIZE

boysnoize-flyer2_03

Peeps,

Do I really need to explain why we, at Coolcats, love Erol Alkan and Sir Alex?

Yes, of course.

Because they are our favourite DJ’s in the world, ok.

Because they’re from the Premier League of electronic music producers, ok, no surprise.

But most of all because they are the most amazing Reggae dancers I’ve ever seen, and you can quote me anytime. When they get together, it’s like the black and white in Yin Yang, or Johnny Castle and Baby at The Sheldrake (RIP Pat Swayze).

Please go HERE if you want to see them in action, with a little DJ Mehdi twist—

Night is young, weekend looks bright, peace, unity, love, and having fun,

Mehdi.

FIVE YEARS

club75

Five years ago, the CLUB 75 was born.

Zdar, Busy Pedro, Xavier and yours truly, at the mighty REX CLUB in Paris, inventing without knowing it what would become Ed Banger’s way of rocking the decks. He, who has the best idea for the next track, gets on the mixer. No order, just disorder – backstage on stage.

And the flyer said ”FROM HIP-HOP TO ROCK TO HOUSE TO TECHNO TO ROCK” and “WHERE THE COOL CATS GO!”

I could go on and on about the whole history of the CLUB, the importance of 75, the who clogs the decks, and the who’s hardest to play after.

But next month we’re giving it a whole new meaning – so you might as well book your tickets, pack your toothbrush, and come to the SOCIAL on October 8th. The CLUB hasn’t gone anywhere: we’re right here, where we belong.

BEATS, RHYMES… AND LIFE WITH AKH

http://www.dailymotion.com/videoxahhmq

My bad if you ain’t familiar with the people in this video, they’re all french TV celebrities.

Except for the host, whose name is AKHENATON, from the Hip-hop band I AM. He is one of the most famous (and one of the first) french rapper, a true OG, and a great lyricist. He is also a friend of mine, going back from 1994, and my first steps in this business. I had the chance to work with him on many occasions, and he featured on my first album.

I love to see him do his thing, how relaxed he is about his hip-hop past, and moving on to stuff he really cares for, instead of chasing the french Soulja Boys and Flo-Ridas. As a matter of fact, I just love to cook as well (ask anybody), and I want to get on this show.

Chill, vas-y, appelle-moi!

Mehdi.

SERIOUSLY, WATCH THIS

YouTube Preview Image

I like watching sports on TV. The big events. Olympics, World Cup, Wimbledon, you name it. To Fafi’s despair and disbelief, I always get over-excited because I just love watching a great champion doing the thing he’s THE BEST at.

To add to the thrill, there are those ‘other side of the world’ events that you have to wake up at night to catch, because of time-change. I still remember waking up at 3AM to watch the Chicago Bulls win their third trophy for example, in 93. That Paxson last second shoot had me waking up the whole neighbourhood.

SIDENOTE: I said this before, and I’m saying it again. Give it up to the Yanks for putting the best entertainment out there, this weekend was CLASSIC. First the Jay-Z MSG show almost got me crying. Then Federer at the US Open had me pumping my fist (almost) harder than a Public Enemy show. And last but not least, that whole Kanye/Taylor/Beyonce/Lil’ Mama drama at the VMA’s probably was the funniest thing I watched on TV this year, and that’s word to Larry David.

Alicia Keys for president,

M.
