FROM THE VAULT: ED BANGER CIRCA 2004

Image 6-1

This was shot for french magazine JALOUSE in 2004, when Sebastian was still wearing neck-ties, Pedro was big on his Bape addiction, So-Me was pioneering the button-up shirt look that I eventually stole from him, Xavier and Gaspard had this thing of dressing alike and Krazy Baldhead STILL had hair on his head. Big up to Nadège Winter from NWA for uppercuting Vicarious Bliss’s Savile Row swag.

My man,

Mehdi.

FROM THE VAULT: 2008 MINI-MIX

YouTube Preview Image

Stumbled upon this Mini-mix I did a couple years ago for ANNIE MAC’s Mash-up BBC show. I called it ‘Love at 145 BPM’, which is pretty fast, tbh.

I’m in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. Today is the first day of the PARKLIFE national revue. It’s raining frogs but the spirit is here, look:

Download the Carte Blanche remix of Uffie’s ‘ADD SUV’ on FAIRTILIZER now.
Hey, everybody’s been posting the vocal version so I put the dub in here, it’s a bit different, more housey, I kinda like it better.
Peace to the one and only Uffster—

IS A DECADE REALLY 10 YEARS?

YouTube Preview Image

Just stumbled upon this post, reminding me that LES PRINCES DE LA VILLE by 113 was officially released about 10 years ago.

Man, 10 years, really?

For those who have no clue what I’m talking about, 113 used to be, along with IDEAL J, the hip-hop band I spent my night and days with, beat-making, producing songs and albums, and touring non-stop – from 1992 to 2002 approximately.

This one album, LES PRINCES DE LA VILLE, went on to be the most successful record I’ve ever produced, and still one of my all time favourites. I don’t even feel like going into the numbers and the awards and stuff, but the memories of recording the damn thing is just pure joy and happiness. Incidentally, it’s also the moment the not-yet-so-busy Pedro and I started to work together so that’s another decade of fun to celebrate right here.

Rappers Rim-K, A.P, and Mokobe remain my good accolytes today, as well as my then co-producer Manu Key, my brother Kery James and cousins Rohff, Karlito and OGB, to name just a few. Lucky you are if you’re familiar with their work and songs, and lucky as well if you don’t know them YET because you’re in it for a real treat, trust me—

Mehdi.
